Anti-Blackness in Filipino Communities from One Down and Palms Up Academy I'm very grateful and humbled that I was recently included in a video around anti-blackness and I'd like to share it with those who work with Filipino communities. This video was created by a local LA group called One Down and one of the founders is a fellow UCLA alum! A huge thanks again to Gel from LEAD Filipino for connecting me with One Down for this video! I've shared this on Facebook and LinkedIn but I don't have an IG or anything else. I appreciate any support you can offer in helping this reach the Filipinx communities where you work and live, as well as our ally communities. Please be sure to tag me (@advancedconsultingllc) and One Down (@onedwnmedia). You can take action on a larger scale by supporting One Down, the Movement for Black Lives, the Bulosan Center for Filipino Studies, LEAD Filipino, AAPI Women Lead, Kabataan Alliance and the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns or NAFCON. By support, I mean money. I mean people power. I mean your voice and your story. Bring your lolos and lolas, your manangs and manongs. And if you are Black and Filipinx like me, tell your story at least to your family. |

Introducing the 2020 Filipino Policy Platform
from the Filipino Policy Steering Committee This platform is a summary of Symposium discussions, ongoing community-based-research around how our community has been impacted by COVID-19, and campaigns the Filipino Policy Steering Committee have been working on in their respective organizations pre and post pandemic. Even though the platform covers a broad array of issues, there are still many voices and experiences that we have yet to hear from, and so, [Katherine Nasol] hopes the platform is a starting point to continue expanding our coalition building. We'll be sharing the platform to the API Legislative Caucus and other key legislators, but most importantly sharing this with our community. Please feel free to share on your social media networks and [we] hope that this platform can be a way to activate folks to get involved with grassroots orgs and coalitions. |

Research-Informed Interventions and Leadership: COVID-19 and Anti-Asian Bias
From San José State University
The webinar Research-Informed Interventions and Leadership: COVID-19 and Anti-Asian Bias was hosted on May 7th. It was presented by Kathleen Wong(Lau), PhD - Chief Diversity Officer, Yvonne Y. Kwan, PhD - Assistant Professor of Asian American Studies, and Moderated by Edwin Tan, PhD - Director of Advocacy and Community Relations at San José State University.
Anti-immigrant sentiment, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, or other forms of bias have always been with us. The current pandemic has seen an exponential rise in anti-Asian discrimination and milder microaggressions. We recognize the horrific disparities in higher morbidity and infection rates for Black/African Americans, Native Americans, and Latinx peoples from COVID-19 across the country. The collective realities have a great impact on the climate, organizational identity, and retention of employees.
Crafted within the complex cultural and political contexts of the Bay Area, this webinar will (1) introduce historical and social psychological frameworks for organizational leaders and team members to understand the dynamics of COVID-19 xenophobia and bias, and (2) offer research-informed interventions and strategies to address anti-Asian bias incidents when they occur in the context of crisis. Target participants span from team members to people who hold positions of leadership in their organizations.

Sign on to Stop Bigotry We the undersigned members of the City University of New York community, and its University Advisory Council on Diversity condemn the anti-Asian and anti-Asian American bigotry which is on the rise because of the divisive and hateful rhetoric of those who seek to divide the nation, at a time when all of us are vulnerable. We urge you to support and join us by signing on to our statement below, and sharing this letter with your networks. It is unconscionable that members of the Asian and Asian American community are threatened by the dangers of Covid-19, and by the very fact that they are Asian or Asian American. This must stop now!
